Have you been knitting garments, dabbled in some stranded colorwork, and are now wondering how to take your knitting skills to the next level? We invite you to join our Advanced Knitting Intensive, where together we will knit an heirloom quality all-over fair isle cardigan. The 1988 Cardigan by Hannah Kim provides a beautiful opportunity to venture into the world of steeking and dive into rhythmic and easy-to-memorize colorwork charts. Find motivation to knit and finish this timeless winter staple by joining this class! We will cast on together this summer and meet regularly to go over every step in the process in order to have this cardigan ready to wear come winter.

We recognize committing to 10 in person classes can be difficult, so for this course we will be offering an online over zoom option for those who can't make it some days, but we encourage you to be there as much as you can!

This class is held in person at our Bainbridge Island shop over 10 sessions on Sundays from 10:30am - 1:30pm. Taught by Kaitlyn Pyle. Exact dates below.

Must Know:

- Confidently knit, purl, increase and decrease stitches

- Work in the round

- Must have previous experience with stranded colorwork.

- Familiarity with knitting garments such as sweaters or cardigans

Techniques you'll learn:

- 2 Stranded Fair Isle Colorwork - worked both flat and in the round

- Steeking

- Reinforcing steeks: Both crochet and sewn methods

- German short rows

- Double Knitting

- Applied Button Bands

- Knitting Button Holes

- Italian Tubular Cast On & Italian Sewn Bind Off

- Making size adjustments

- Options to design your own colorwork charts

PLEASE NOTE: This is an advanced knitting class and is not suitable for beginner knitters. In order to move at the pace needed to finish this garment, basics such as knitting, purling, working in the round, picking up stitches, etc. will not be covered. Prior experience with stranded colorwork is highly recommended. If you have any questions as to whether this class would be a good fit for you, please reach out. We would be happy to discuss this class more in depth with you prior to you signing up.

What you'll need for the class:

Yarn

- Fingering weight yarn in at least 5 colors (We recommend Le Petit Lambswool or Avenir Fingering)

- Yardage: 2484 - 2754 yards (2271 - 2518 m) depending on size. Please note that this charted pattern is currently available in sizes S, M, L, XL, 2XL or bust circumference range of 39 1/2" to 57 1/2" with a recommended positive ease of 6"

Needles

- Main/Sleeve: US2.5(3.0mm), 32”/80cm or longer Circular needle.

- Ribbing: US0(2.0mm), Circular needle.

- Button Band: US1.5(2.5mm), 32”/80cm circular needle.

Other

- 7-9 Buttons (1-2cm in diameter)

- Waste Yarn

- Crochet hook OR sewing machine for steeking reinforcement

- Tapestry Needle

- Stitch Markers

No need to bring materials for the first class; we'll focus on yarn selection, color planning, and what needle sizes you will require. However, if you already have a yarn in mind, feel free to bring it along. We will provide the printed pattern. Needles and yarn should be purchased separately. If fewer than four spots are filled 72 hours before the class is scheduled to begin, the class will be canceled. A full refund will be issued and you will be notified.
